PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission type screen and a rear projection type screen that hardly cause a deterioration in picture quality due to the occurrence of scintillation, a decease in resolution, a decrease in lightness, etc., even when made lightweight, thin, or high in definition. SOLUTION: A Fresnel lens sheet which makes video light projected on an observation side from a light source into nearly parallel light and a light-diffusing lens array sheet having an array of a plurality of lenses for diffusing the nearly parallel light of the video light from the Fresnel lens sheet are arranged closely to each other, light diffusion portions which are arranged in the optical path of the video light and diffuse the video light are provided at least on the light source side of the Fresnel lens sheet and the observation side of the light diffusing lens array sheet, and the thickness of the Fresnel lens sheet in the light transmitting direction is larger than the thickness of the light diffusion lens array sheet in the light transmitting direction.
