PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of troubles of a body device by maintaining the paper feed performance even when an object other than paper sheets to be fed is stored in an empty space of a stacking plate. SOLUTION: The paper sheet feeder comprises a stacking plate 21 which is split into a plurality of stacking parts 21A, 21B in the paper feed direction (the direction of an arrow X) and capable of storing paper sheets of a plurality of sizes, a plurality of elevating/lowering means 40, 50 to elevate/lower each of the plurality of stacking parts 21A, 21B, and a control unit 60 to elevate/lower the stacking parts 21A, 21B by controlling each operation of the plurality of elevating/lowering means 40, 50 according to the size in the direction of the arrow X of the paper sheets to be stored on the stacking plate 21 and fed.
