PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To specify a user utilizing a software program from a product by the software program. SOLUTION: The user tracing device 1 has a user ID embedding means 12 which embeds a user ID peculiar to the user in content preparing software 21 when the user acquiring the content preparing software 21 executes user registration, a registration user database 13 for storing information of the user together with the user ID, a user ID reading means 14 for reading the user ID from digital contents 3, and a user information acquiring means 15 for acquiring the information of the user corresponding to the user ID from the registration user DB 13. Operation of the content preparing software 21 is specified so as to embed the user ID set in the software 21 in the digital contents 3 being the product of the software 21.
