SOLUTION: In the cold cathode fluorescent lamp, mercury is enclosed in a glass bulb 30, and a fluorescent layer that contains alumina-containing fluorescent particles 34B and alumina-noncontaining fluorescent particles 34 R, 34 G is formed on the inner side of the glass bulb 30. In the fluorescent layer 34, a metal oxide does not adhere on the surface of the alumina-noncontaining fluorescent particle 34 R, 34 G, and a metal oxide 36 adheres only on the surface of the alumina-containing fluorescent particle 34B consisting of BaMg<SB>2</SB>Al<SB>16</SB>O<SB>27</SB>:Eu<SP>2+</SP>. At least one of Y<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, MgO, La<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, SiO<SB>2</SB>, ZrO<SB>2</SB>, HfO<SB>2</SB>, Y<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>, Nb<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>, CaO, MgO, SrO, BaO and Gd<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>is included as the metal oxide 36.
