PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an "audio reproducing apparatus" for reproducing recorded audio data by an operation mode convenient for a user. SOLUTION: When a DVD-Audio disk 1 is mounted, a navigation engine checks whether the mounted DVD-Audio disk 1 contains an ASVSI file, that is whether the mounted DVD-Audio disk 1 contains a still picture which has to be reproduced and displayed simultaneously with the audio data. Moreover, the navigation engine checks whether the mounted DVD-Audio disk 1 includes an AMGM_VOBS file, that is whether the mounted DVD-Audio disk 1 contains a visual menu. When neither the still picture nor the visual menu is included, an AOP mode avoiding the reproduction of the still picture is set as a player mode.
