PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a format period when a two-layer disk is formatted by an optical recording device connected to a host computer driven by a battery power source and to accurately playback the two-layer disk after format by a DVD-ROM reproduction dedicated device. SOLUTION: The host computer 20 capable of being driven by the battery power soruce is connected with a CD/DVD recording and reproduction drive device 1 which records information in an optical disk 18 of the two-layer disk, when a format operation is executed to the optical disk 18 by a CD/DVD recording and reproducing drive device 1, a control part 21 of the host computer 20 performs selection control so that the format operation is performed by ZZ system format when it is determined that the host computer is driven by the battery power source, a format instruction as its selection result is issued to the CD/DVD recording and reproduction drive device 1 to perform the format operation by the ZZ system format.
