PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine capable of suppressing wrong recognition of engine speed fluctuation even when eccentricity of a pulse plate due to assembly tolerance exists. SOLUTION: When the engine is operated under motoring condition at a predetermined speed, interval of Ne pulse output from an Ne sensor is measured (step S1), if measurement value of the Ne pulse interval is predetermined criterion value or larger and large irregularity of Ne pulse interval exists (step S2), a correction factor for reducing irregularity of the Ne pulse interval is calculated and stored (step S3 to S4). Wrong recognition of engine speed fluctuation can be suppressed by correcting output Ne pulse of the Ne sensor by using the correction factor calculated and stored in such manner and controlling operation of the engine.
