<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote control apparatus which can be operated intuitively with very simple configuration and simple processing without the need of complicated image recognition processing. <P>SOLUTION: An operator 11 is photographed by a photographing device 1 and an image after inverting process is displayed on a display device 9. The image in which the operator is displayed is divided into a plurality of image blocks and the motion amount Dmn which shows change between frames of image divided for every block is computed, and operator's gesture is distinguished according to the motion amount Dmn.
