PHOTOCATALYST, METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME AND METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TREATING WATER BY USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalyst the reaction velocity of which is improved remarkably by depositing silver and silver chloride on a photocatalytic material and to provide a method for manufacturing the photocatalyst and a method and an apparatus for treating water.

SOLUTION: The photocatalyst A is manufactured by depositing silver 2 and silver chloride 3 on the photocatalytic material 1. Silver chloride is produced by depositing silver on the photocatalytic material 1 and electrolytically oxidizing the silver deposited on the photocatalytic material. Namely, the core of the photocatalyst is silver and the outer shell of the photocatalyst is silver chloride. The photocatalytic material 1 is an electrically conductive substance or a photocatalytic material-deposited electrically conductive substance 6. The method for manufacturing the photocatalyst comprises the steps of: firstly depositing silver on the photocatalytic material 1; and secondly oxidizing the deposited silver electrolytically to form silver chloride. Silver can be deposited on the photocatalytic material 1 by electrolytic reduction. The method for treating water comprises a step of bringing toxic substance-containing water into contact with the photocatalyst to remove a toxic substance. The toxic substance-containing water of an oxygen-poor state can also be treated.
