<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for enabling foreign language text display when encoding is not available. <P>SOLUTION: In the method and the apparatus, there is included a step for referencing a phonetic language database that includes double-byte font entries and associated phonetic representations of the double-byte font entries. At least one of the double byte font entries is used to obtain the phonetic representation of at least one double-byte font to be used.
