PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which reduces noises during a front operation. SOLUTION: In an apparatus body 1, an engine unit 230, wherein an image forming part 2 and a sub-scanning and carrying part 3 are integrated into a unit, is arranged in the lateral direction of the apparatus body 1; the engine unit 230 can be longitudinally attached to/detached from the apparatus body 1; a maintenance and recovery mechanism 121 for maintaining a state of a recording head 24 of the image forming part 2 is arranged on the rear side of the apparatus body 1; and an idle ejection receiving part 126 is arranged on the front side of the apparatus body 1.
