PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic test device and method allowing the evaluation of the dimension of an inclined defect that is difficult to be tested by a conventional tandem probe technique. SOLUTION: The ultrasonic test device, using an array sensor 101 constituted by a plurality of vibration elements, transmits and receives ultrasonic wave by moving the transmitting position and receiving position of an array sensor 101 to a matching state or different state. In this ultrasonic test method, using the ultrasonic test device, the existence or angle of the inclination of the defect and the dimension of the inclined defect is evaluated based on the incident angles of mode conversion wave, longitudinal wave, and transverse wave, and receiving position of the ultrasonic wave.
