PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a start control device for an occupant protective apparatus which control device keeps a voltage applied to a diagnosis circuit for a squib lower than a voltage applied to the squib for igniting the squib, and prevents current inflow from a first power source applying the voltage for ignition to the suib to a second power source applying the voltage to the diagnosis circuit. SOLUTION: The start control device includes a backup power source 22 which applies a boosting voltage Vback to the squib 12 for starting the occupant protective apparatus, and a power source 42 which applies a reference voltage VDD, which is lower than the boosting voltage Vback supplied from the backup power source 22, to the squib diagnosis circuit 40 for diagnosing the abnormality of the squib 12. A diode 60 is arranged on a path between the backup power source 22 and the power source 42 to permit current flow from the power source 42 but to block current flow from the backup power source 22 to the power source 42.
