PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can shorten time to the completion of printing. SOLUTION: This printer comprises a printer engine 6 which disables printing due to a wait factor, a CPU 2, a presence/absence-of-paper detecting sensor for detecting the presence or absence of paper, and a panel 7 for displaying a message. The CPU 2 determines a paper feed part at least when printing can be done and when the printing cannot be done due to the wait factor, and makes a message on a paper-absence state displayed on the panel 7 when the presence/absence-of-paper detecting sensor detects that the paper feed part runs out of paper.
