The suction unit has a longitudinal slit opening extending in the longitudinal direction of the sheet stack (BS) in a zone which adjoins a lower region of a chain rail (2). The slit opening can be formed as an elongated suction nozzle running parallel to the lower edge of the rail. The suction nozzle is formed by a profiled element formed by extrusion pressing.
