<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for attaining good distortion compensation characteristics even for a laser diode by utilizing a predistortion linearizer for compensating distortion of a power amplifier. <P>SOLUTION: A branch line 11, a distortion generation amplifier 12, attenuators AttM 13 and AttS 14, a distortion generation amplifier 15, distributors 16 and 17, branch lines 18, 19 and 20, and a predistortion linearizer consisting of an attenuator AttE 21 and a phase shifter 22, are connected to the prestage of an element being compensated, i. e. a laser diode LD.
