<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure that a built-up weld metal is suitable for repair without unfavorably weakening the mechanical characterization of a repaired area. <P>SOLUTION: The method characterizes a metal material mechanically to a material to constitute a portion to be repaired, and justifies a device for repairing the portion by the build-up welding with the metal material. According to the method, a recess is machined in a metal bar, the recess is subjected to the build-up welding 54 by the repairing device.
