934,239. Resilient upholstery. VITAFOAM Ltd. June 21, 1962 [June 22, 1961], No. 22566/61. Class 52 (4). A composite unit for seats or seat-backs comprises a rigid frame 10 having a support 11 of resilient material, e.g. rubber, secured thereto, a foamed polyether pad (not shown) being attached to the support 11 and preferably also to the frame 10. The pad may have a polyvinyl chloride cover adhered thereto. In the production of a said composite unit the frame 10 with a support 11 secured thereto by hooks 15 is located in a mould lid, polyether is poured into the mould base and, after closing the mould, is allowed to foam thereby to fill the mould and pass through holes 11a in the support 11, the mould then being heated to cure the polyether and cause it to adhere to the support 11 and the frame 10. A layer of polyvinyl chloride may be applied, e.g. by spraying, to the mould base prior to introducing the polyether, thereby to form an adhered cover. Alternatively, a loose cover is provided.
