Components (16, 17, 20, 21, 23) of the spherical joint bearings (14) are coated with carbon or a carbon-containing material. Connecting screws (23) and the washers under them, are similarly coated. The ball cups (16) and ball heads (17) are coated, the bearing recesses (20) being optionally coated. The coating is made from tungsten carbide. This is deposited from the vapor phase or plasma phase, to a thickness of 1 - 15 mu m.
