A simple jig for cutting access holes in a roof lining, e.g. for venting ducts, flue pipes etc. has a mounting (11) which is fitted to the outside of the sloping roof frame and onto which is fitted a template (23) with an aperture similar to the aperture required in the lining. The template is levelled via an integral spirit level (24) and is secured by a screw (22). The inside edge of the template forms a guide edge (27) for the cutting tool (25). The user cuts an oval hole in the lining with the projection of the hole forming the required aperture for the duct.
