<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having a plurality of developing units storing toner of the same color, and an image forming method thereof, wherein the toner consumption of each developing unit is properly managed. <P>SOLUTION: An engine controller for controlling an engine part selects one of four developing units storing toner of a black color (step S202) when receiving job data (step S201) and forms a on-page portion of an image (steps S202 and S203). The toner consumption for one page is calculated from toner quantity data included in the job data (step S205), and the toner consumption is subtracted from a toner residual quantity of the developing unit used for formation of the image of the page to update the value of the toner residual quantity. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
