PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a autonomous thermoelectric generator which generates a stationary electric power and a stationary heat energy without needing a stationary external heat source, and also to provide an autonomous thermoelectric generating method. SOLUTION: In the beginning of operation, since a temperature difference arises between a high temperature side 3 of a thermoelectric generator module 1 and a low temperature side 4 of a cooling medium 5, the high temperature side 3 is heated by a external heating means. As a result, the electric output from the thermoelectric module 1 is extracted through a conductor 6 and is distributed to a conductor 7 and a conductor 8, and a heater 2 is heated by the electric power distributed to the conductor 7. When the heater is properly heated and the external heating means is removed, the thermoelectric module 1 heats the heater 2 by a part of the electric output where the module 1 generates itself, and the temperature difference between the high temperature side 3 thermal-contacted with it and the low temperature side 4 which is cooled and is kept at a constant temperature, is kept, thereby, the thermoelectric generation continues. An excessive electric power, except for the electric power for heating the heater, of the whole electric power from the thermoelectric generation module 1 is provided for the external utilization through the conductor 8.
