PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having a small size and inexpensive switch back mechanism by using an inclination roller member as an opposed member of a conveying roller for the switch back mechanism and shortening length of a conveying passage. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, as shown in Fig. 7, the switch back mechanism functions as both of normal rotation conveying and reverse rotation conveying of the recording material and has a roller member 23b-1 opposed to a conveying roller for performing both normal and reverse rotations. The roller member 23b-1 opposed to the reversely rotating conveying roller applies conveying force in a direction inclined to the recording material conveying direction to the recording material and the inclined direction is reverse relative to the recording material conveying direction at the normal rotation conveying and the reverse ration conveying.
