PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self checkout apparatus surely preventing a folded bag from being laid under an opened bag without a large-scaled structure needed while employing such a structure that articles filled in the opened bag in contact with a base are mounted on the base. SOLUTION: A holding arm 307 for holding the bag 401 is located above the base (scale pan 303) while supported by an arm support 305. The arm 307 is structured to hold a pair of handles 403 provided on the bag 401 in a skewered state, has a first holding part 311 for keeping the bag 401 folded on the side of its foot, and has at its leading edge a second holding part 312 for keeping the bag 401 open at a lower position than the position kept by the first part 311. The second holding part 312 keeps the bag 401 at a height where the articles filled in the bag 401 are mounted on the base (scale pan 303). The first holding part 311 keeps the bag 401 at a height where the lower end of the bag 401 does not reach the position of the bag 401 kept by the second holding part 312.
