<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate wrong detection in human body detection and human body tracking through a further high-level system by enabling human body detection and tracking of a moving human body. <P>SOLUTION: A profile is extracted from an object photographed by a distance camera 1 followed by differential operation, and compared with a human body model, whereby it is detected as a human body. A two-stepped pattern is extracted as a shoulder part or head part from the object photographed by the distance camera 1 and taken as a candidate of human body.
