PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more enhance an image quality by avoiding luminance irregularity occurring on a projected image. SOLUTION: The projector is equipped with: a light source system including a light source lamp 29 generating light, a reflector 28, a color wheel 30, and an integrator 31; a projection system including a spatial optical modulation element 27 and a projection lens 12 performing projection display with the light from the light source system; a range-finding sensor 13 and a range-finding processing part 37 detecting a distance and an angle to a projection object surface; and a control part 36 controlling so that an image projected by the projection system is focused to be rectangular on a projection surface according to the distance and the angle to the object surface, the projected image focused to be rectangular is photographed by a photographic lens 14, a CCD 41 and a processing circuit 38 so as to detect the luminance distribution of the projected image, and the bias of luminance controlled in terms of direction and size is imparted to luminous flux generated by the light source lamp 29 in accordance with the obtained luminance distribution through a projected light processing part 35 and electromagnetic 34a to 34d.
