PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a DNA immobilization method capable of easily immobilizing DNA, whose 5'-terminal is not modified or modified with phosphoric acid, and realizing a large amount of immobilized DNA molecules and high bond strength for the DNA molecules. SOLUTION: In the DNA immobilization method, the DNA whose short-chained 5'-terminal is not modified or modified with phosphoric acid, is immobilized on a substrate having a high-molecular material on the surface, which includes a first unit having a phosphoryl choline group and a second unit having an activated carboxylic acid derivative group, obtained by causing a carbonyl group to bond to an electron-attracting substituent. Preferably, the DNA, whose short-chained 5'-terminal is not modified or modified with phosphoric acid, covalently bonds to a portion of the carboxylic acid derivative group, and is immobilized on the surface of the substrate.
