PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a nucleus-alkylated aromatic compound which method is high in catalytic activity, suppresses a catalyst deterioration to prolong a catalyst life and also suppresses the decomposition of an aliphatic alcohol to efficiently produce the nucleus-alkylated aromatic compound. SOLUTION: The method for producing the nucleus-alkylated aromatic compound comprises reacting an aromatic compound with the aliphatic alcohol in the presence of a catalyst, wherein the catalyst is previously reduction treated.
