PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an air gap optimum for a motor, in an air gap type DC motor. SOLUTION: A rotor 2 for a field is fixed to the center, and two stators 6 and 7 are rotatably supported on both sides of the rotor 2. For the rotor 2, a permanent magnet 1 is counterposed to the yokes 6a and 7a of the stators 6 and 7, and air gap planes are made the same poles, and it is made into different poles on the stator 6 side and the stator 7 side. For the stators 6 and 7, a plurality of yokes 6a and 7a are arranged at equal intervals in its circumferential direction, and toroidal coils 4 and 5 are applied from the internal perimeter to the periphery to the yokes 6a and 7a. Grooves are made from its internal perimeter to its periphery at the faces opposed to the permanent magnet 1 and their opposite faces of the yokes 6a and 7a, and a part of the coils 4 and 5 is accommodated herein thereby enabling the air gap to the permanent magnet 1 to be set as specified.
