PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a key telephone system in which a call of high voice quality can be made in accordance with a called party terminal, and gain control method therefor. SOLUTION: If a volume change operation is performed by operating a volume key or the like in a volume setting input circuit 24 provided in a key telephone set (TEL) 20, an optimal gain is reset while taking into account setting values of reception gain control circuits 15, 25 (or of transmission gain control circuits 16, 26), thereby preventing voice quality from being deteriorated by increase of a noise level.
