摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a steel cord, wherein heat-generation is reduced and disruptive strength is improved without deteriorating its fatigue resistance, and a pneumatic radial tire excellent in durability using the same. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for the steel cord comprises 35-65 pts.wt. carbon black, a cobalt salt of an organic acid and resorcine or a resorcine derivative and a methylene donor thereof, based on 100 pts.wt. at least one rubber component chosen from a natural rubber and a diene synthetic rubber. The carbon black has (A) a specific surface area measured by nitrogen adsorption (N<SB>2</SB>SA) of 70-100 m<SP>2</SP>/g, (B) a ratioΔDst/Dst of the half value width (ΔDst) of Dst to the mode (Dst) of the aggregate size distribution of 0.85-1.25, (C) a 24M4 DBP absorption of 60-120 mL/100 g and (D) a ratio (N<SB>2</SB>SA/IA) of N<SB>2</SB>SA to the iodine adsorption (IA) of 1.10-1.35.
