PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect the head or the neck of a patient in a mammography apparatus using tomosynthesis together. SOLUTION: An X-ray source (4) is arranged at a head compartment (10) fixed to a pivoting-type arm (5) supported by a first carriage (7) sliding on a support (9). A radiation-transmittable pressure plate (16) is arranged between the X-ray source (4) and a mamma supporting part (3), and a second carriage (21) is mounted so as to be slid for pressurizing the mamma of the patient. This apparatus has a screen (22) for protecting the head or the neck of the patient, and the screen can be held at a position fixed with respect to the head or the neck of the patient between the trajectory of the X-ray source (4) and the head or the neck of the patient during a tomographic examination, or can be held between the X-ray source (4) and the head or the neck of the patient when taking of a radiation image is desired.
