<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the precision of detection of an image area as a detection object in an image to be processed. <P>SOLUTION: This image processor 1 computes a Shape Index, which serves as the amount of characteristic, indicating the curved shape of the density distribution of a medical image, at each pixel of the medical image to be processed, by using a curvature filter, and creates the image (Shape Index image) which emphasizes the unevenness of the density distribution. An abnormal shadow candidate area is detected by binarizing the Shape Index image through the use of a threshold of the preset Shape Index, and the image area of an abnormal shadow is detected by deleting the false-positive image area from the abnormal shadow candidate area on the basis of the amount of the characteristic of the detected abnormal shadow candidate area. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
