PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for managing books which is highly reliable for a long period of time without disturbing the normal handling of books 11.

SOLUTION: An electronic tag 13 is arranged on a front cover and/or a back cover of the books 11 so as to be substantially in parallel with the covers. Antennas 21 for a reader include a substantially loop shape antenna patterns 25 which are formed on shelf boards 6-8 so as to be substantially in parallel with surfaces of the shelf boards 6-8.
