The invention comprises water-insoluble monoazo-dyestuffs of the general formula <FORM:0940037/C3/1> in which X, R1 and R2 represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or an alkyl or alkoxy group and Y represents a carbonyl or sulphonyl group. Large numbers of diazo and coupling components are specified for use in conventional coupling procedures for preparing the dyes representative of the substituents in which are methyl and methoxy groups and chlorine atoms. The coupling may take place in an aqueous medium in the presence of a wetting or dispersing agent, e.g. a reaction product of ethylene oxide and octadecyl alcohol. The dyes are suitable for colouring cellulose, cellulose esters, e.g. acetyl cellulose, cellulose ethers, nitrocellulose aminoplasts, phenoplasts, polystyrene, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride or acetate, rubber, casein or silicone resins.
