PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image input system capable of striking a balance between an automatic binarization and a paper sheet size detection. SOLUTION: The image input system is characterized in that the system includes an image input apparatus 1, a control unit, and a connection means 3, the image input apparatus 1 includes an image data read means 207, an image data storage means 208a, a first image processing means 208b, and a second image processing means 208c, the control unit includes a control means for controlling the image input apparatus 1 by way of the connection means 3, and a third image processing means, the image input apparatus 1 applies first image processing to first image data of an original acquired by the image read means 207, and transfers produced second image data to the control unit, the control unit applies third image processing to the second image data, and the image input apparatus 1 applies second image processing to the first image data and transfers produced third image data to the control unit.
