PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk array device capable of securing redundancy even without a hot spare disk when one disk fails. SOLUTION: This disk array device has first and second RAID groups A, B and a disk array controller. The disk array controller is connected to the first and second RAID groups A, B. The first and second RAID groups A, B include: first and second data disk groups A1, A2, B1, B2 written with data strings; and first and second redundant disks P1, P2 written with redundant data strings to the data strings. When the second data disk B2 that is one of the second data disk groups B1, B2 fails, the redundant data strings to the data strings of the first and second RAID groups A, B are generated on the basis of the data strings of the first data disk groups A1, A2, the data string of the normal second data disk group B1, and the redundant data string of the second redundant disk P2, and are written in the first redundant disk P1.
