PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a conveying device having holding device, that has a simple constitution and can detect the center position of the holding device for holding a conveyed object and the center position of the conveyed object, held by the holding device in a noncontact manner. SOLUTION: The conveying device has a first detection section 501 for irradiating first light to the holding device 410 that is moving along a first direction, receiving the first light, and thus detecting a first dimension related to the first direction of the holding device 410, corresponding to the first light blocked by the holding device 410, and a second detection section 502 for radiating second light to the holding device 410 moving along a second direction, receiving the second light, and thus detecting a second dimension, related to the second direction of the holding device 410 corresponding to the second light blocked by the holding device 410. The center for the first dimension of the holding device 410 is detected from the moving amount of the holding device 410 by a first driving section 201, and the center in the second dimension of the holding device 410 is detected from the moving amount of the holding device 410 by a second driving section 202.
