PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it easy to set a cross beam between two tunnels. SOLUTION: The method of setting the cross beam (16) between the two tunnels in the ground comprises the steps of setting a pipe member (22) extending from an opening (18) of a wall surface of one tunnel to an opening (20) of the other tunnel, preparing the cross beam (16) having a tapering end in the other tunnel, pulling the end (26) into the pipe member by exerting tensile force to the cross beam through a rod (28) which extends from the inside of the one tunnel via the pipe member, excavating surrounding ground of the end of the cross beam and surrounding ground of an end of the pipe member while exerting tensile force to the cross beam, exerting tensile force to the pipe member in the direction of the one tunnel, and then pulling the ends of the pipe member and the cross beam into the one tunnel.
