An automotive piston engine has a cylinder head under a cylinder head valve cover. The cylinder head has an oil supply passage that discharges upwards through an oil splash jet outlet located within a cup. The cup is within the cylinder head surface and holds a quantity of cold oil when the engine is not in operation. On cold start-up the incoming fresh oil ejects cold oil from the cup at the shaft and rockers.
