PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for cleaning air which can stably clean air over a long period of time utilizing by the photocatalytic function of the apparatus.

SOLUTION: The apparatus for cleaning air is provided with a cleaning unit 104 having a gas passage 104a formed from a member having the surface on at least a part of which a multi-functional layer consisting of carbon-doped titanium oxide or an oxide of a titanium alloy is formed and a light source 104b arranged in the gas passage 104a.
