<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent oxidation of a power supply conductor and fall-off of a base of a short-arc type discharge lamp, by robustly fixing structural members inside the base while satisfying start-up characteristics, irradiation illuminance characteristics, and life characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: A reinforcing structure having a function of preventing the base from falling off due to heat accompanying lamp lighting, preventing members in the base from being cut off, or preventing oxidation of the power supply conductor is provided in a base inner structure of the short-arc type discharge lamp. A lamp-stem insertion size from a base inlet to a tip of a lamp stem is to be 15 mm or more. A sealing shape at an end part of the lamp stem is to be of a shape having a recess or a protrusion vertical toward a major axis of the lamp.
