<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a personal digital assistant operating for a long period by efficiently utilizing power from an electric power source. <P>SOLUTION: A personal digital assistant 1 includes a central processing unit 10 and an electric power source 15 connected to the unit 10. An external control system 20 supplying power to the unit 10 through an external input and a self-control system 21 supplying power to the unit 10 through the control by the unit 10 are connected in parallel between the power source 15 and the unit 10. The control system 20 is provided with a mechanical switch MS, and the control system 21 is provided with a transistor switch TS which is turned on while the switch MS is turned on, and is turned off after a prescribed processing while the switch MS is turned off by the control through the unit 10.
