PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce interference and to maintain mechanical completeness for an optical substrate having a modulated structure body on a surface. SOLUTION: The optical substrate includes one or more surfaces. The one or more surfaces include one or more optical structures having shapes and sizes, which partially correspond to modulation of corresponding ideal structure bodies. The shapes and sizes of the respective one or more structures are partially determined by one or more modulation components which are generated at random and the modulation of the one or more optical structures is limited by adjacent optical structures composed of the surfaces. The optical substrate can serves as an optical modulation substrate for a back light of a flat panel display such as a liquid crystal display (LCD) back light. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
