PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer fixing device improving durability and reliability by preventing deterioration in the surface layer of a transfer fixing belt (or transfer fixing roller), deterioration in transfer properties of an intermediate transfer belt, deterioration in the surface of an image carrier, and so forth, and shortening the operation resume time. SOLUTION: The transfer fixing belt 2 is rotatably held by a fulcrum 3 rotated by a motor 7, a transfer pressure contact roller 4 fixed to the tip of one arm 6a for constituting an L swinging arm 6 capable of swinging around the fulcrum 3 as the center, and a fixing roller 5 fixed to the tip of the other arm 6b for constituting the L swinging arm 6. A swinging control part 12 for the transfer fixing belt 2 is provided, for separating the transfer fixing belt 2 held by the transfer pressure contact roller 4 and the fixing roller 5 fixed to the tips of the L swinging arm 6 from the intermediate transfer belt 1 and a pressure member 9, by rotating the motor 7.
