<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recognize an object with high precision, and to announce the result of the recognition regardless of conditions in picking up the image of an object. <P>SOLUTION: Image data picked up by a video camera 200 are converted into digital image data by a video capture part 104. A CPU 100 detects an outer shape by morphology processing from the picked-up image, and extracts an object which can be a traffic sign as a recognition candidate object. Then, the CPU 100 extracts a color included in the candidate by relative color evaluation, and separates a pattern having each color from the recognition candidate object, and matches the pattern with a binary pattern 103b stored in a database 103. As a result, since the code of a pattern to be matched is generated, a contour, a pattern code to be matched, and an item matched with a color are retrieved from a retrieving table 103a, and when the matched item has been retrieved, an output message of the retrieval is outputted from an external AV output device 300. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
