<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus whereby a paper corresponding to setting change of a printing inspection apparatus or a printer, or to an image inspected by the printing inspection apparatus can be specified by taking information related to a preprinting paper and printing into the printing inspection apparatus or printer while unnecessary information visually recognized in the preprinting paper is prevented from being printed. <P>SOLUTION: A region A of a halftone dot image is formed by YM black which does not include carbon black to a continuous forms format F of the preprinting paper P. Various information is printed by carbon black to the region A. Image-reading is carried out with the use of infrared light by the printer or printing inspection apparatus, whereby the information is read.
