SOLUTION: This shift controller of the automatic transmission comprises a comprehensive reduction ratio control means 6a engaging a first connection element 11 with a third connection element 21 and releasing a second connection element 12 from a fourth connection element 21a to control to a first reduction ratio and releasing the first connection element 11 from the third connection element 21 and engaging the second connection element 12 with the fourth connection element 21a to control to a second reduction ratio smaller than the first reduction ratio, a connection element synchronizing means 6b starting the release and completing the release of the first connection element 11 and the third connection element 21 in a period from the start of the engagement of the second connection element to the completion of the engagement, and a engagement force increasing means 6c holding the increased engagement force of the second connection element 12 in a period from the start of the release and the completion of the release of the third connection element 21.
