PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize traffic imposed on a master terminal when the master terminal automatically carry out address settings of terminals attended with extension of the terminals and revision of a communication path or like processing in a wireless communication device achieved as a relay terminal in a wireless communication system such as a wireless sensor system. SOLUTION: In the wireless communication system adopting the multi-hop communication system wherein terminals T11 to T1m; T21 to T2n; T3 (referred to as T as a generic term) make communication with the master terminal 1 directly or via relay terminals T10, T20 (referred to as T0 as a generic term), the terminal T generates a tentative address in a step 1, the terminal T generates an address request signal by using the tentative address for a sender address, and transmits it through broadcast or multicast in a step 2. The relay terminal T0 responds thereto by acting as a representative of the master terminal 1, acquires a formal address from the master terminal 1, transfers it to the terminal T, and retransmits the formal address when the terminal T0 cannot obtain an acknowledgement signal.
