PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an EL element capable of providing high-luminance luminescence and high luminous efficiency. SOLUTION: This dispersion type electroluminescent element has a phosphor layer containing phosphor particles between a pair of facing electrodes at least one of which is transparent. The electroluminescent element is characterized by that the surface resistivity of a transparent conductive film in the at least one transparent electrode is 0.5-80Ω/SQUARE; the average particle size of the phosphor particles is 12-22μm; and the variation coefficient of the particle size is not greater than 35%.
